Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a selection of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the carol service.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been supported by the organisation, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a youth community award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to raise money for community pantries.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "a dream come true."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
